Volunteering has been an incredibly rewarding experience for me. For the past six months, I have been volunteering to help people learn about computers, tablets, and phones, as well as assisting staff with their computer issues and providing general support.
As someone who has struggled with low self-esteem, depression, and social anxiety in the past, volunteering has had a tremendous impact on my life. Before I started volunteering, I was hesitant to interact with people and lacked the confidence to take on new challenges. However, through volunteering, I have been able to overcome these obstacles and become more comfortable around others.
One of the most significant benefits of volunteering has been the opportunity to help others. It has been incredibly fulfilling to see people of all ages and backgrounds gain confidence and skills with technology. For many of the people I have helped, using computers, tablets, and phones has been a daunting task, but with a little guidance, they have been able to navigate these devices with ease. It has been rewarding to see the impact that I have had on people’s lives and to know that I have made a positive difference in my community.
In addition to helping others, volunteering has also allowed me to develop my own skills. As someone with a background in web development, I was able to contribute to a small staff portal project during my time volunteering. It was exciting to be able to apply my knowledge and skills to a real-world project and to see the impact that it had on the organisation. I also learned a great deal about communication, teamwork, and problem-solving through my interactions with staff and other volunteers.
Perhaps the most significant impact that volunteering has had on me has been the personal growth that I have experienced. When I first started volunteering, I was nervous and unsure of myself. However, as I became more comfortable with the work and the people around me, I began to develop a sense of confidence and self-assurance that I had not felt before. Volunteering has allowed me to push myself out of my comfort zone and to take on new challenges that I never would have considered otherwise.
One of the aspects of volunteering that I have enjoyed the most has been working with people in the library. Being able to help them learn about their devices and troubleshoot any issues they may have has been a rewarding experience. Whether it is answering questions about how to use a specific app or walking them through a software update, I have found it gratifying to help people become more comfortable with technology. Additionally, doing one-on-one sessions has been a great way to work on my social anxiety. By working closely with individuals, I have been able to develop my communication skills and become more comfortable with talking to people. Volunteering has allowed me to not only help others but to also help myself grow and develop as an individual.
I would like to add that throughout my time volunteering, the staff at KHL have been very kind and helpful. They have provided me with guidance and support whenever I needed it, and have made me feel like a valued member of the team. Their patience and willingness to answer my questions have made my volunteering experience all the more enjoyable. I am grateful for the opportunity to work with such a supportive group of people, and I am thankful for their contributions to my personal growth and development.
Overall, my volunteering journey has been an incredible experience. I have been able to make a positive impact on my community while also developing my own skills and personal growth. I would highly recommend volunteering to anyone who is looking to make a difference and to grow as an individual.
