Be part of something that makes a meaningful difference to people, families and communities. As a Trustee of KHL, you’ll help shape the future of an award‑winning charity at the heart of its community – one that has been improving physical and mental wellbeing, reducing loneliness and tackling health inequalities for nearly 25 years. This is a rare opportunity to use your skills, insight and passion to influence real, measurable impact, supporting thousands of local people to live healthier, more connected lives. If you believe in putting people first, working creatively with others, and strengthening communities from the ground up, becoming a KHL Trustee could be one of the most rewarding decisions you make.

What we’re looking for in a Trustee

We welcome applications from people of all backgrounds and life experiences. You don’t need previous trustee experience – what matters most is your commitment to our mission and your willingness to support the community.

We are seeking candidates with experience of any of the following:

  • Experience in organisational or strategic development
  • Experience within the health sector
  • Knowledge of, or lived experience within, the local community
  • Grant‑funding or corporate partnership experience
  • A finance background
  • Strong I.T. and systems skills
  • A passion for improving health and wellbeing

Your Commitment

As a trustee for KHL, you will play a key role in supporting an award‑winning charity to grow, strengthen its impact, and continue making a real difference in Keighley and across the Bradford District. You’ll join a supportive board made up of like‑minded people who share a commitment to reducing isolation, tackling health inequalities, and improving wellbeing.

Minimum expectations of the role:

  • Attend 5-6 board meetings per year (including the AGM)
  • Commit around 5 hours per month to review board papers and respond to email enquiries
  • Take part in short‑term working groups on specific areas such as safeguarding, HR, or governance (optional)
  • Represent KHL at occasional networking or community events

There will also be opportunities to get more involved, depending on your interests, availability, and skills.

Duties

Main Responsibilities

  • Actively contribute to the Board of Trustees by helping shape KHL’s strategic direction, setting overall policy, defining organisational goals, and reviewing the effectiveness of our services.
  • Ensure that KHL complies with all relevant legal and regulatory requirements, including its constitution, charity law, employment law, data protection legislation, and insurance obligations.
  • Ensure that robust processes, procedures, and policies are in place to protect KHL from non‑compliance and to uphold our governing documents.
  • Oversee and be accountable for monitoring the delivery of all legal obligations and ensuring that agreed outcomes are met.
  • Work alongside the Chief Officer to monitor and safeguard KHL’s resources – including finances, property, and staff.
  • Ensure that KHL maintains appropriate insurance to cover all reasonable liabilities.
  • Ensure that effective systems are in place to support, supervise, and manage staff and volunteers.

Other General Duties

  • Act in the best interests of KHL at all times
  • Champion and promote the work of KHL
  • Commit to working collaboratively as part of a team
  • Maintain confidentiality at all times
  • Uphold and promote best practice in equality, diversity and inclusion
  • Attend relevant training and meetings as required
  • Attend board meetings, read papers in advance, scrutinise information and actively contribute to discussions
  • Declare any conflicts of interest when carrying out trustee duties
