KHL celebrates 25 years of supporting community health and wellbeing

News

Keighley Healthy Living, based on Scott Street, is marking its 25th anniversary with a series of special events celebrating a quarter-century of improving health and wellbeing across the local community.

Originally established in 2001 as the Keighley Healthy Living Network, the charity secured five years of funding for its pioneering Action for Health programme. Starting with a team of just five staff members, the organisation delivered a range of initiatives including fitness classes, young people’s health projects, and community arts and health programmes designed to improve wellbeing and reduce health inequalities.

In 2006, the charity relocated to its current premises on Scott Street, which it now owns. Over the past two decades, Keighley Healthy Living has continued to grow and evolve, expanding both its workforce and the range of services it provides. Today, the charity employs more than 30 staff and delivers projects across the Bradford district, supporting people living with long-term health conditions, chronic pain, mental health challenges, maternal health needs, and those looking to improve their overall wellbeing.

To commemorate this significant milestone, Keighley Healthy Living will be hosting two public events and is inviting local residents, partners, and supporters to join the celebrations.

The first event is an Open Day at the charity’s Scott Street centre on Wednesday 30 September, from 10.30am to 2.30pm. Visitors will have the opportunity to learn more about the organisation’s work, enjoy a ‘through the years’ exhibition, and discover the wide range of services available to the community. Everyone is welcome to attend.

Celebrations will continue with a Tree Planting Ceremony at Cliffe Castle on Thursday 1 October at 10.00am. A commemorative tree will be planted in honour of the charity’s 25 years of service, symbolising its deep roots in the community and its continued growth and commitment to supporting local people for generations to come.

Reflecting on the milestone, Keighley Healthy Living said the anniversary is an opportunity to celebrate not only the organisation’s achievements, but also the many individuals, families, staff, volunteers, and partners who have helped shape its journey over the past 25 years.

The charity looks forward to welcoming the community to both events as it celebrates a proud history of helping people live healthier, happier lives.
