Local woman set to run the London marathon for Keighley charity

News

Saltaire based Mary Patterson will take part in next year’s London marathon, on behalf of local charity, Keighley Healthy Living.

Collectively, they have set a fundraising target of £1,000 that will help to sustain their timetable of free activities and social groups with a focus on mental health support, getting people more physically active and reducing social isolation.

Mary said ‘I am delighted to be running the London marathon on behalf of KHL. I have been running consistently for over 3 years and have completed several half marathons. I ran my first marathon last year and recently completed a 35-mile ultramarathon in the Lake District.’

‘Alongside my excitement to run, I’m looking forward to working collaboratively with KHL to raise funds towards supporting their ongoing work. After visiting their centre, it showed me how valuable these smaller charities can be to surrounding communities and how attending somewhere like KHL can make people feel less lonely and positively benefit their physical and mental health’.

The race will take place in April 2025 and Mary will run alongside 50,000+ runners, who will raise money for a wide variety of charities.

Communication coordinator for the charity, Chloe Flaherty said ‘We are thrilled to have won a place at the 2025 marathon and to support Mary in her training, together we will be campaigning to raise both awareness and money for KHL. We are planning some fundraisers in the run up to the race, to get us as close to our target as possible.’

‘As a charity, we continuously need funding to enable us to deliver support to improving the health and wellbeing of local communities and this has given us a great opportunity to do that’.
