New support groups for people living with heart conditions

News

Local charity, Keighley Healthy Living is launching two new support groups within the community to provide opportunities for people living with heart conditions to share experiences, connect with others with similar conditions and access further health and wellbeing support.

The charity is working in collaboration with Airedale NHS Foundation Trust’s Cardiac Rehab Team to offer additional support once patients have been discharged from their care.

Nicola Drake, Cardiac Rehabilitation Clinical Lead at Airedale NHS Foundation Trust said: “We aim to support our patients to be able to look after their own heart health. Having a support group in the community will provide an option for people to continue to remain healthy, share experiences and improve their wellbeing. We are so pleased to have been able to work with Keighley Healthy Living to get these groups up and running.”

The groups welcome people who are newly diagnosed and would like to know more about how to live well with their condition and people who are living with an existing heart condition and willing to offer support to others or wanting to expand their support network. Carers are also welcome to join the groups.

Helen Maguire, Lifestyle Change Project Manager from KHL said ‘we have been working with the Trust’s Cardiac Rehab Team throughout 2024 to highlight the health and wellbeing options in the community that their patients can access post-discharge. The partnership has been very successful and together, it was recognised a need for the support groups to strengthen the current community offering across Airedale and Craven’.

The current support groups are hosted at The Sangat Centre, Keighley on every second Thursday of the month 10am – 11.30am and The Quaker Meeting Room, Skipton on every third Monday of the month 6pm – 7.30pm.
